oleiro
Há muito tempo, na cidade de
Zahlé, ocorreu uma rixa entre um jovem poeta, de nome Fauzi, e um oleiro,
chamado Nagib.
Para evitar que o tumulto se agravasse, eles foram levados à presença do juiz do lugarejo.
O juiz, homem íntegro e bondoso, interrogou primeiramente o oleiro, que parecia muito exaltado.
– Disseram-me que você foi agredido? Isso é verdade?
– Sim, senhor juiz. - confirmou o oleiro – Fui agredido em minha própria casa por este poeta. Eu estava, como de costume, trabalhando em minha oficina, quando ouvi um ruído e a seguir um baque. Quando fui à janela pude constatar que o poeta Fauzi havia atirado com violência uma pedra, que partiu um dos vasos que estava a secar perto da porta. Exijo uma indenização! - gritava o oleiro.
O juiz voltou-se para o poeta e perguntou-lhe serenamente:
– Como justifica o seu estranho proceder?
– Senhor juiz, o caso é simples. - disse o poeta. – Há três dias eu passava pela frente da casa do oleiro Nagib, quando percebi que ele declamava um dos meus poemas. Notei com tristeza que os versos estavam errados. Meus poemas eram mutilados pelo oleiro. Aproximei-me dele e ensinei-lhe a declamá-los da forma certa, o que ele fez sem grande dificuldade. No dia seguinte, passei pelo mesmo lugar e ouvi novamente o oleiro a repetir os mesmos versos de forma errada. Cheio de paciência, tornei a ensinar-lhe a maneira correta e pedi-lhe que não tornasse a deturpá-los. Hoje, finalmente, eu regressava do trabalho quando, ao passar diante da casa do oleiro, percebi que ele declamava minha poesia estropiando as rimas e mutilando vergonhosamente os versos. Não me contive. Apanhei uma pedra e parti com ela um de seus vasos. Como vê, meu comportamento nada mais é do que uma represália pela conduta do oleiro.
Ao ouvir as alegações do poeta, o juiz dirigiu-se ao oleiro e declarou:
– Que esse caso, Nagib, sirva de lição para o futuro. Procure respeitar as obras alheias a fim de que os outros artistas respeitem as suas. Se você equivocadamente julgava-se no direito de quebrar o verso do poeta, achou-se também o poeta egoisticamente no direito de quebrar o seu vaso.
E a sentença foi a seguinte:
– Determino que o oleiro Nagib fabrique um novo vaso de linhas perfeitas e cores harmoniosas, no qual o poeta Fauzi escreverá um de seus lindos versos. Esse vaso será vendido em leilão e a importância obtida pela venda deverá ser dividida em partes iguais entre ambos.
A notícia sobre a forma inesperada como o sábio juiz resolveu a disputa espalhou-se rapidamente. Foram vendidos muitos vasos feitos por Nagib adornados com os versos do poeta. Em pouco tempo Nagib e Fauzi prosperaram muito. Tornaram-se amigos e cada qual passou a respeitar e a admirar o trabalho do outro.
O oleiro mostrava-se arrebatado ao ouvir os versos do poeta, enquanto o poeta encantava-se com os vasos admiráveis do oleiro.
Cada ser tem uma função específica a desenvolver perante a sociedade. Por isso, há grande diversidade de aptidões e de talentos.
Respeitar o trabalho e a capacidade de cada um possibilita-nos aprender sobre o que não conhecemos e aprimorar nossas próprias atividades.

The poet and the Potter
Long ago, in the city of Zahle, a feud between a young poet named Fauzi, and a Potter, called Nagib.

The Potter was snatched up to hear the verses of the poet, while the poet delighted with admirable Potter's vessels.
