O galo esperto


O fazendeiro resolve trocar o seu velho galo por outro que desse conta das galinhas.
 
Ao chegar o novo galo, e percebendo que perderia suas funções, o velho galo foi conversar com o seu substituto:
 
– Olha, eu sei que já estou velho e é por isso que meu dono o trouxe aqui. Mas será que você poderia deixar pelo menos duas galinhas para mim?
 
– Que é isso, velhote? Vou ficar com todas, meu chapa!
 
– Mas só duas... - ainda insistiu o galo.
 
– Não! Já lhe disse! São todas minhas!
 
– Então, vamos fazer o seguinte - propõe o galo velho. – Apostamos uma corrida em volta do galinheiro. Se eu ganhar, fico com pelo menos duas galinhas. Se eu perder, são todas suas.
 
O galo jovem mede o galo velho, de cima a baixo, e pensa consigo que certamente ele não será capaz de vencê-lo:
 
– Tudo bem, velhote, eu aceito.
 
– E olhe, já que realmente minhas chances são poucas, deixe-me ficar vinte passos à frente. Pode ser? - pediu o velho galo.
 
O mais jovem pensou por uns instantes e aceitou as condições.
 
Iniciada a corrida, o galo jovem dispara para alcançar o outro galo.
 
O galo velho faz um esforço danado para manter a vantagem, mas rapidamente está sendo alcançado pelo mais jovem.
 
No momento em que o mais velho ia ser alcançado pelo mais novo, o fazendeiro pega sua espingarda e atira sem piedade no galo jovem.
 
Guardando a arma, comenta com a mulher:
 
– Num tô intendendo, uai! Já é o quinto galo veado que a gente compra este meis!
 
Nunca subestime a sabedoria dos mais velhos.
